A first-of-its-kind Aquatic Therapy Center designed specifically for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Opening in 2027, NCFL’s new Aquatic Therapy Center will provide opportunities for recreation, therapy, exercise, sensory support, and social connection in a safe, welcoming, and fully accessible environment. Designed as an extension of our state-of-the-art Paramus Achievement Center, this space will help individuals build confidence, improve wellness, and experience the freedom of movement that water uniquely provides.
Zero-Entry Access
A gradual, beach-style zero-entry design allows individuals to walk or roll into the therapy pool without steps or ladders. This accessible entrance promotes greater independence, enhances safety, and creates a more comfortable, inclusive aquatic therapy experience for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and mobility challenges.

Accessible Ramp
A gently sloping ramp with secure handrails provides another accessible way to enter and exit the therapy pool. Ideal for individuals who use wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids, the ramp offers added stability while supporting greater independence and confidence during aquatic therapy sessions.
Designed for comfort and stability, the ramp makes entering the pool easier, safer, and more independent.
Lazy River
The lazy river features a gentle, continuous current that encourages movement, relaxation, and low-impact exercise in a fun, engaging environment. Whether used for therapeutic activities or recreation, it supports circulation, mobility, balance, and social interaction while creating a calming aquatic experience.

Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy uses the natural properties of water to improve strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, and overall mobility in a safe, low-impact environment. For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), water-based therapy can also reduce pain, build confidence, promote relaxation, and support greater independence while improving overall quality of life.
Every session is tailored to help participants build strength, confidence, and lifelong functional skills.
Resistance-Current Lap Lanes
Resistance-current lap lanes provide a controlled environment for aquatic exercise, adaptive swim instruction, rehabilitation, and individualized fitness programs. Adjustable water currents allow participants to build strength, improve endurance, and increase cardiovascular health while progressing at their own pace in a safe, supportive setting.

Sensory Water Features
Designed with sensory engagement in mind, interactive water features create a calming, therapeutic environment that supports relaxation and emotional well-being. Gentle movement, soothing sounds, and customizable water experiences help reduce anxiety, improve focus, encourage self-regulation, and provide sensory stimulation for individuals with diverse needs.
