At New Concepts for Living (NCFL), we take great pride in selecting exceptional individuals to join our team, individuals who embody our commitment to caring for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this month’s Team Spotlight, we are delighted to introduce Janet Spence, a dedicated Residential Coordinator who has been an integral part of the NCFL family for almost 6 years. Janet plays a vital role in managing and overseeing Community Residences, as well as training new managers.

Q. What made you want to work at NCFL?
A.
Before leaving my previous company, I spoke to my two case managers who told me about NCFL, one of the fastest-growing organizations for adults with developmental disabilities, and that I would be a great fit there. When I came in for my interview, I immediately felt the love. The residents in my group home are like my family; you love them and feel good going home after a long day, knowing that you have helped them and can see that they appreciate and love you. I can also call my supervisor if anything is bothering me, and she is always willing to listen and show her support.

Q. What is a positive memorable moment or experience you have had while working here?
A.
Getting hugs and kisses from one of the residents and hearing her say, “I love you.” She was removed from hospice after 3 years, and that was a very special moment for all of us.

Q. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A.
I love to cook and entertain, and going on trips with my family. I also like helping people who are less fortunate. This year, during our family BBQ, I collected school supplies for kids in the community I grew up in, Jamaica. My family and I will be distributing them to the kids for Christmas.

Q. What would you say to someone thinking about working at NCFL?
A.
NCFL is one of the most successful growing agencies. This is the place where you can really grow, and the individuals we serve become your second family.
